The UN Closes Out 2012: Nine Resolutions Against Israel, Silence About Syrian Attacks on Palestinians

by Elliott Abrams
December 20, 2012

The UN General Assembly is closing out 2012 in a blaze of glory. The UNGA adopted nine resolutions against Israel in one day, December 18. They are usefully summarized by Tom Gross in his web site, and I copy his list of them at the bottom of this blog  post. More information about this important UN work for world peace can be found at the UN’s own web site.

Perhaps the most striking event in the Middle East this past week was the attack on a Palestinian refugee camp in Syria. UN Secretary General Ban ki-Moon did mention this in his own statement on December 16:  “Today’s reports of aerial bombing amid intense violence resulting in many casualties among the Palestinian refugee population in the Yarmouk camp in Damascus are a matter of grave concern.”

But the General Assembly could not find time to get to it, because it was too busy. The day it passed nine resolutions against Israel it also had to handle “Cooperation between the United Nations and the International Organization of la Francophonie,” which you can see was urgent; “University for Peace,” another pressing matter; and most of all “Question of Tokelau–” a non-self-governing territory, population 1,411 and run by New Zealand, a noted oppressor. But in truth the UNGA was very late on Tokelau: Tokelau’s own web site reveals that on December 9 the voting closed that might have made Miss Tokelau the winner as Miss South Pacific.

At the Yarmouk camp in Syria, roughly 100,000 Palestinians are said to have fled after air strikes that killed dozens of people. On this the General Assembly is silent, while it repeats its litany of complaints against Israel. The logical conclusion is the correct one: the UNGA isn’t interested in Palestinians except as a weapon with which to attack Israel. When someone else acts, and actually attacks Palestinians, that’s too bad but isn’t of widespread interest. Perhaps the motto for the General Assembly’s work this month might be “Remember Tokelau!”

Shame on you, UN! The God of Israel will pervail, no matter what you do to undermine Israel. It is so much more refreshing and and fortifying to embrace the TRUTH of the God of Israel than to play the deadly game of power and control. The God of Abraham, Jacob and David will rule this planet.

Why do the nations rage, And the people plot a vain thing? The kings of the earth set themselves, And the rulers take counsel together, Against the Lord and against His Anointed, saying, “Let us break Their bonds in pieces And cast away Their cords from us.” He who sits in the heavens shall laugh; The Lord shall hold them in derision. Then He shall speak to them in His wrath, And distress them in His deep displeasure: “Yet I have set My King On My holy hill of Zion.” “I will declare the decree: The Lord has said to Me, ‘You are My Son, Today I have begotten You. Ask of Me, and I will give You The nations for Your inheritance, And the ends of the earth for Your possession. You shall break them with a rod of iron; You shall dash them to pieces like a potter’s vessel.’ ” Now therefore, be wise, O kings; Be instructed, you judges of the earth. Serve the Lord with fear, And rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son, lest He be angry, And you perish in the way, When His wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all those who put their trust in Him. (Psalms 2:1-12 NKJV)

We need to pull away from the U.N. They are nothing but of hate-mongers, always hateful when it comes to Israel. We, citizens of the U.S., have have no business fraternizing with them. They do NOT think like us, they are enemies of Israel!!

I bless the Name of the Lord Jesus. He said this would all have to take place before He came back to rule and dispose of the wicked and i say Blessed is He who comes in the Name of the Lord. Even so, come quickly Lord Jesus.

Outrage at the UN and how they perceive things

  • Posted by Al Solanki

It’s hilarious that all these Israel lovers are pointing fingers at everyone else. These uneducated rejects can’t seem to notice that Israel is the only country in the world to violate every single international law. Why don’t you puppets educated yourself. Learn to live by the law instead accusing everyone who speaks out as anti Semite. Why are you anti-world, why do you think stealing ones home and building your own on that land is ok.. Did your parents not teach or educate you better????? Anyone who disagrees with my statement needs to be put into a mental institute

It is true that many innocent Palestinians living in either Gaza or the West Bank, as well as those living in Syria and elsewhere are being subjected to most unfair, if not criminal actions.
From their actions it is obvious that most of the UN member states are determined to point the accusing finger towards Israel.
I am not suggesting that anything and everything Israel does is right. But it is most surprising that there is no mention whatsoever of the most corrupt and evil practices of the Hamas, Hezbollah and Fatah leaders. An example: Where did most of the ‘contributions’ from EU, USA and others countries to the Palestinian cause end up? Were these BILLIONS of US Dollars all applied to the helping of innocent Palestinians? I don’t think so!
May I suggest that we all wake up to the realities of today and recognize that most of these funds were and are embezzled. Take for instance Mr Rashid, a former ‘financial adviser and manager’ under the late Yasser Arafat, now with a net worth of US$500 million! Where do you think he got that money from? (Even the PA are now looking for him!) The net worth of Mahmoud Abbas (Abu Mazen) is estimated at US$100 Million. Did he win the lottery?
Isn’t it time that we recognize that the leaders of Hamas, Fatah and Hezbollah are not interested in the well being of their own people. On the contrary, they have their own vicious agendas and (mis)use the plight of many innocent Palestinians for their own benefit, enriching themselves up the hilt and falsely pretending to be really preoccupied with their people.
All those of a sound mind wish nothing but honest and sincere peace in our world. It is so terribly sad, incomprehensible and most unfortunate that there always are (and have been) elements in our (world) society who are favoring death and destruction over life and peace.

Why should we rely on the UN to get thing done in Israel? They are a sovereign nation that should be allowed to exist without so many nations trying to make decision for them.

I think biblical prophecy is being fulfilled in Israel. No nation will ever be able to prevail against Israel.

Read the UN Charter. Israel agreed to uphold it. Israel has been acting outside the extent of its Internationally recognized sovereignty for 64 years, so of course it attracts UN/UNSC resolutions.

BTW Most UN/UNSC resolutions against Israel are reminders. Reminders of Israel’s obligations, reminders of the UN Charter, reminders of International Law, reminders of the GC’s and reminders of previous UNSC resolutions.

If you don’t adhere to an agreement with the power company by not paying your bill, is the Power Company biased against you or are you a schmuck for not adhering to your agreement?

For example, UNSC Resolution 476 is one of at least EIGHT reminders of UNSC Res 252
    252 (1968) of 21 May 1968, 267 (1969) of 3 July 1969, 271 (1969) of 15 September 1969, 298 (1971) of 25 September 1971, 446 (1979) of 22 March 1979, 452 (1979) 20 July 1979, 465 (1980) of 1 March 1980, 476 June 30 1980 and 478 August 20 1980. None of which have anything to do with race or religion. They’re based on the UN Charter, International Law and the GC’s, all of which Israel obliged itself to uphold. Alas it hasn’t.
