Morning Update: Gore Blasts Political Climate
Former Vice President Al Gore criticized the presidential candidates (AP). “There is no single candidate that is putting forward a comprehensive argument about the environment or making climate change a priority,” Gore said. Speculations that he will enter the race continue to grow.
John McCain told the Jerusalem Post that Hezbollah must be disarmed and “its patron in Damascus must be confronted,” referring to the Syrian government. The other frontrunning candidates also had sharp words for Syria.
Democratic candidate Bill Richardson outlines his foreign policy outlook in “A New Realism: Crafting a US Foreign Policy for a New Century” in the Harvard International Review. He emphasizes the importance of a U.S. commitment to international law and multilateral cooperation, and says the United States “needs to stop considering diplomatic engagement with others as a reward for good behavior.”
