Morning Update: Tommy Thompson Bows Out

Former Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy Thompson dropped out of the race for the Republican nomination after coming in sixth at the Iowa straw poll.

A New York Times column looks at the Democratic candidates’ stances on trade.

Republican candidate Mike Huckabee, a strong supporter of the troop surge, told CBS News’ Face the Nation that he can win the nomination with that stance, “because the American people are going to see that the surge is beginning to have an impact.”
