Morning Update: Warnings on Iran Rhetoric
Appearing on CBS’s Face the Nation yesterday, Democratic candidate Bill Richardson warned against a build up to war with Iran (AP). “Calling [the Iranians] names, labeling them terrorists, drawing up military options is just making the situation worse and inflaming the Muslim world,” he said.
Democratic candidate Mike Gravel ran a blog on Huffington Post criticizing Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY) for her vote last week to label the Iran Revolutionary Guard a terrorist organization, which he says is just a step toward war.
Myanmar: Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) said Myanmar’s military junta should be sanctioned and kicked out of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Foster’s).
Muslim world: Republican candidate Mike Huckabee criticized President Bush in a major foreign policy speech on Friday, slamming everything from his administration’s understanding of Muslim extremists to its democracy-promotion policies.
