Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY) introduced legislation yesterday prohibiting President Bush from further extending the U.S. military commitment in Iraq without congressional approval.
Sen. Joe Biden (D-DE) blogged about the consequences of war with Iran. “Military power can’t provide a lasting solution. Air strikes can set back Iran’s nuclear program, but they can’t stop Tehran from restarting it,” he wrote. He predicted dire developments beyond Iran: “In Israel and Lebanon, Hamas and Hezbollah would be unleashed. In Afghanistan and Pakistan, enraged Muslim populations would make it much harder for moderate leaders to cooperate with us, if they didn’t force them from office.”
Republican Rudy Giuliani in Florida yesterday said the United States must “make it clear” that Iran will not be allowed to gain nuclear capabilities. “If we’re clear about that, I think the sanctions would have a better chance of working. If we become ambiguous, if we go back to a more defensive posture … it would seem to me that would be a mistake,” he said.
