Morning Update: Minutemen Controversy

Despite Minutemen founder Jim Gilchrist’s endorsement of Mike Huckabee this week, Minutemen president Chris Simcox sent out a press release yesterday slamming Huckabee’s immigration record.

CFR’s Michael Gerson, meanwhile, criticizes Huckabee for his eleventh-hour toughening of his immigration stance, calling his acceptance of Gilchrist’s endorsement “a moral blunder of the first order.”

In a new campaign ad, Rudy Giuliani says he will “end” illegal immigration by building a border fence, installing a Borderstat system, and requiring immigrants to possess a tamper-proof identification card and to learn English.

TPM’s Election Central blog looks at Giuliani’s seemingly contradictory statements on these measures in the past.
