Morning Update: Skirmishing on Iraq
Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY) on Meet the Press Sunday criticized Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) for what she says are inconsistencies in his Iraq record. “When he became a senator, he didn’t go to the floor of the Senate to condemn the war in Iraq for 18 months. He didn’t introduce legislation against the war in Iraq. He voted against timelines and deadlines initially,” she said.
In response, the Obama campaign accused Clinton of “rewriting history” on Iraq, and defended his statement in 2004 that he was not sure how he would have voted on the war resolution.
Torture: Mitt Romney on CNN’s Late Edition Sunday said it is not “productive” for the U.S. president to define torture. “Once you lay that list out,” he said, “you are forever prohibiting the United States from ever employing that technique, even in a circumstance where there is the ticking time bomb scenario.”
