Morning Update: Latino Vote Controversy
Attempting to reach Latino voters in Nevada, textile and hotel workers’ union UNITE-HERE ran a Spanish-language radio ad saying Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY) “does not respect our people” and calling her “shameless” (Politico). The ad referred to a failed lawsuit spearheaded by a union endorsing Clinton that would prevent caucusing at special locations on the Las Vegas strip for casino workers, many of whom are Hispanic (Reuters).
Prominent immigration and labor activist Dolores Huerta, who supports Clinton, called the ad “pathetic and sad,” and said she has “yet to find even one worker—a Latino worker—who is supporting [Clinton rival Sen.] Barack Obama.”
Iran: Giuliani foreign policy adviser Norman Podhoretz says in Commentary Magazine that military action against Iran remains necessary, despite the December NIE report indicating Iran stopped pursuing a nuclear weapon.
