In reference to CFR.org’s Issue Tracker, “The Candidates on Domestic Intelligence,” reader David writes:
This issue is difficult but US citizens are supposed to have protection against their rights being violated. Once a practice is misused, then anyone who feels like invading your privacy can. All they have to do is accuse you of “terrorist activites.” The role of the government is to protect its citizens, not abuse them. Privacy is essential to good mental health.
