Morning Update: Three Cheers for Kosovo
Though caught up in two new nominating votes, which take place in Wisconsin and Hawaii today, Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) and Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY) both took a moment to endorse Kosovo’s declared independence from Serbia. Obama expressed hope that “Kosovo’s government and people act with urgency to ensure that Kosovo becomes a positive example of democratic governance and the rule of law.” He also said the reelection of Serbian President Boris Tadic was a “critical step in moving Serbia closer to the goal of full integration into the democratic West.”
Clinton called Kosovo’s independence “a historic step,” and called on the international community to press for full protection of minority rights in Kosovo.
Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) also welcomed Kosovo’s independence and said the United States and international community should “help solidify these gains by quickly recognizing Kosovo’s independence.”
Bush, Sr.: Former President George H. W. Bush endorsed McCain for the Republican nomination Monday, praising his conservative record and character (CNN). “Few men walking among us have sacrificed so much for the cause of human freedom,” Bush said of McCain, a long-time prisoner of war in Vietnam.

I am morbidly fascinated by the support for this illegal and immoral act from the US, its NATO allies and the EU. It seems that when the UN backs their “war on terror” in Afghanistan, it is “She who must be obeyed”, but when they want to support jihadist terrorism, the UN is simply to be ignored! And of course, it is important to remember that the Kosovar jihadists would be in no position to declare “independence” if it were not for the terror campaign against the Serb people carried out by Bill Clinton and his minions in NATO in 1999.
This putative declaration of “independence” violates international law, but so did the US/NATO actions in 1999 as does the continued illegal occupation of sovereign Serbian territory by NATO troops. It also violates the UN Charter which guarantees the territorial integrity of member States and it violates, specifically, Security Council Resolution 1244 of 10 June 1999.
As I have pointed out many times before, on my blog, in fora in which I participate and in person to whomever would listen, Kosovo is the heartland of Serbia. It was in Kosovo that the Serbian Nation was founded, in Kosovo that the Serbian Church took root and it was in Kosovo that the flower of Serbian chivalry was slaughtered, dying in defence of the West against the Turkish hordes. Now as the Munich of Europe approaches and the dictators of the EU prepare to throw open the gates of Europe to the jihad, the Kosovars see their chance to tear the heart out of Serbia and they are being aided, abetted, helped and protected by two faced hypocrites in Washington and other Western capitals who claim to be fighting terror.

[…] There’s no disagreement even among the most bitter rivals, when it comes to taking an anti-Serb position. After all, we drank that Kool-Aid together way back in the previous century: Clinton, Obama and McCain Endorse Kosovo […]

I totally agree with Mr. Weismiller. The Kosovo issue is treated with the utmost ignorance by all of these candidates. They think they just better stay on a safe side, because by now even children know who is good and who is bad in Kosovo. But what they haven’t noticed is that most of the Americans have already changed and nuanced their minds beyond this position. And they are ashamed and shocked with the fact that their government recognized Kosovo’s self-proclaimed independence.
