Morning Update: Bush Backs McCain
President Bush endorsed presumptive Republican presidential nominee John McCain Wednesday. Bush said he is trying to get affairs with countries like Iran, Iraq and North Korea in “as good a position as possible” so that McCain “can deal with these issues in a way that yields peace” when he is elected. The Wall Street Journal argues Bush’s backing could be a mixed blessing for the Republican candidate.
In a statement Wednesday, Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) praised a new UN Security Council resolution that would increase pressure on Iran to cease its “illicit nuclear program.” Obama called for “a strategy of aggressive diplomacy” with Iran, including a possible incentive of World Trade Organization membership.
