In response to CFR.org’s Backgrounder, “The Role of Delegates in the U.S. Presidential Nominating Process,” reader Bob Morgan writes:

Will someone please tell me why, in this day and age where everyone can vote by a number of ways,  do we need delegates to represent the private voter? Why not simply count the votes? The chance of a tied vote with the millions voting is so remote , delegatesare not needed.
