Morning Update: Obama on Hamas
Barack Obama’s campaign said Thursday that he does not approve (ABC News) of former President Jimmy Carter’s decision to meet with Hamas officials. “Senator Obama does not agree with President Carter’s decision to go forward with this meeting because he does not support negotiations with Hamas until they renounce terrorism, recognize Israel’s right to exist and abide by past agreements,” Obama’s campaign said. “As president, Obama will negotiate directly with the head of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas.”
Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY) said Thursday she will withdraw troops (NYT) from Iraq if elected even if military officers adviser against it. “Our military, and thankfully so, carries out the policy that is set. You ask the military for their best advice about how to implement the policy that you have set,” she said in Pittsburgh.
