Morning Update: McCain on Nuclear Power
Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) on Wednesday promised to build forty-five new nuclear reactors (Reuters) by 2030 in the United States if he is elected.
OIL: Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) rejected Republican calls (BosGlobe) for oil drilling off the U.S. coast. “This is not something that’s going to give consumers short-term relief and it is not a long-term solution to our problems with fossil fuels generally and oil in particular,” Obama said.
AFGHANISTAN: In a press conference on Wednesday, Obama described his approach to the war in Afghanistan, saying he does not think the United States needs to transfer “every troop” there from Iraq. “What we can do is provide relief, lower the number of tours that people are on, make sure that some of the money that is currently being spent in Iraq is going to Afghanistan but still have some money left over for, for example, re-setting our military, re-equipping our National Guard and so forth,” he said.
