Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) warned Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and Prime Minister Vladimir Putin of the “severe, long-term negative consequences that their government’s actions will have for Russia’s relationship with the U.S. and Europe.” McCain called for a UN Security Council resolution “condemning Russian aggression,” and said the United States should “move ahead with the resolution despite Russian veto threats, and submit Russia to the court of world public opinion.”
Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) also reiterated his opposition to Russia’s military campaign. He said on Monday that the United States should “continue to push for a United Nations Security Council Resolution calling for an immediate end to the violence.”
