Seeking a Third Way on Foreign Policy

Former presidential candidate Ron Paul and third-party presidential candidates Bob Barr, Cynthia McKinney and Ralph Nader held a joint press conference Wednesday at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C.

Paul said the two-party system “offers no real choice,” and declined to endorse either rp.jpgSen. John McCain (R-AZ) or Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL). “We cannot expect withdrawal of troops from Iraq or the Middle East with either of the two major candidates,” Paul said. “Expect continued involvement in Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Georgia. Neither hints of a non-interventionist foreign policy. Do not expect to hear the rejection of the policy of supporting the American world empire. There will be no emphasis in protecting privacy and civil liberties and the constant surveillance of the American people.”
