Morning Update: Jobs and Stimulus
Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) held a summit on jobs (McClatchy). Obama attacked the Bush administration for failing to address the impact of the economic crisis on “Main Street.” Google CEO Eric Schmidt, who spoke at the summit, called for an investment in a “smart” power grid and new alternative energy concepts (WSJ).
Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) and his running mate, Gov. Sarah Palin (R-AK), released a statement on Tuesday in response to calls for a new economic stimulus. “The most effective stimulus will be to reverse the cycle of foreclosure, neighborhood blight, and falling housing values,” the statement read.
The economic advisers for both presidential candidates debated each other yesterday at CFR. See video of the event here.
